How to make friends with the Dark

By Kathleen Glasgow

I came across this book last year. So ofcourse I added it to my tbr. But couldn’t exactly had the heart to read it until recently.

Since 2020 it’s been a nightmare. So many people loosing their loved ones and it’s just so heart shattering.

But in the midst of all this Darkness. I thought it was finally time to make friends with the Dark. And to finally give this book a read.

And I’m disappointed to say that as much as I wanted to connect with this book. I just couldn’t. I mean yes the storyline was really sad. But it just didn’t connect with me on the level I expected it to be.

Yes at some point it did manage to make me cry.

The story is about Grace aka Tiger. And how she grieves when she lost her mom unexpectedly right after she had a fight with her. Story is about hope and finding light even in the darkest time.

I really wanted to feel this one. So I’m a little disappointed. But hey atleast I finally added it to my read pile so that’s an upgrade.

I think that’s all I have to say.

3/5 ⭐ if you ask me to rate this book. But hey we’re all different who knows you might like this book.

Okay.! Until next time. ❀️♾️

Everyday Sexism.

Girl Up By Laura Bates.

I feel like there’s no need for me to explain this title. It pretty much explains itself.

So recently i read “Everyday sexism” by Laura bates.

And i got soo impressed by how she gave voice to thousands of Women out there. I decided to read more works from her.

And that’s when i came across “Girl Up” by Laura bates herself.

From :- Girl Up by Laura bates

This book is totally an inspiration. I mean if i could have gotten this book during my teenage, My life would have been much easier.

So today i wanted to share some of the sexist incidents I or My friends have encountered.

Who knows Someone else get inspired too and share theirs. And then people might start acknowledging the fact that sexism exist and is quite normalized that we don’t even notice it anymore.

As i might have shared before I’m a Dental student, and during my fresher year. A Teacher (Female I should add. And a Doctor) asked to see Me and Two of my batchmates in her Cabin.

And Ofcourse we obliged (Who wouldn’t on their first day in that department).

As we asked why are we called She told us that We’re dressed inappropriately. What are we trying to do Seduce/Distract/Excite boys.

I was totally blown away from this comment because :-

A) I wasn’t wearing anything inappropriate. I was wearing a top with a 2-3 inch slit on my shoulders. That’s it. And I don’t know what kind of guys get excited or seduced by just seeing a girl’s shoulder. And even if that’s so distracting for them. They can always look away right. That’s always a good option.

B) My batchmates were wearing nothing inappropriate either. One of them had their Zipper visible. How dare she. RIght??

And C) That teacher is an Educated woman herself. She’s a Doctor and the Head of her Department for crying out loud.

I’m just soo blown away by the fact that girls from very young age have been going through this prejudice and they don’t even know that it’s wrong.

Even Women don’t support women as i told you a true story myself above. How can we expect Men to do it.

At the same time. People encourage this saying “Men will be Men”. As you might have seen in some sweet sweet advertisement. Oh really. I thought Men will become Chimpanzee, but thank you for this extraordinary knowledge.

Now time for second story. As every other sane 23 year old I’m on instagram. I mean who isn’t right.

You have to live in a cave to not be on instagram. (Don’t get mad at me if you’re not on Ig, I totally respect your decision)

You see what i did above?? I did a thing called Respecting someone else’s opinion and mind my own business. So yeah.. People need to learn that too. But we’ll talk about it some other time.

So yeah. I post on instagram story alot.. Like A-fucking-lot. So what. Big deal? Nah.

I’ve been following lots of pages about Feminism, I’m still learning about it and when i like some post i share it on my story so that people could learn from it too.

And then one day while i was minding my own business this guy, A senior said to me that my stories are too “Feministy”.

And that guy is a Doctor? So how do you feel about Educated people talking like this. I mean why do we treat “Feminism” “Feminists” as a curse word.?

I’ve seen girls in highschool denying they aren’t a feminist because they don’t want guys to think that they are prude or ball busters.

I mean being a feminist does not mean that you hate men. How many times do we have to tell this. It means we want Equality and Equal opportunities for women.

Now some ask counter question that why do i need feminism because I’ve been given equal opportunity for education and living a good life. And to those i want to reply that It’s not about me or any other fortunate girls. We need feminism for betterment of tomorrow so that not only us but the girls who are less fortunate than us can have the same opportunities as men.

From Girl Up by Laura Bates

Now talking about equality. We need to stop sexualizing and start normalizing female body. I mean yeah we have breasts.? So what. Can you please stop staring down and look at my face? Yeah. Thank you.!!

Body hair are normal. I didn’t say anything about the forest you’ve grown on your chest, Did i Raju? Then why are you so concerned with me having some hair on my arm. Get a life already.

Vagina is not a curse word. You came out of one for crying out loud. and it’s a part of our body , Just like you have a Penis so stop being a dick. (Yeah Pun Intended)

Periods are normal, not something for you to disgusted about. Say it with me now. “Menstruation is normal”. Repeat after me until it start feeling normal to you.

We’re surrounded by Everyday Sexism. But we’re still not ready to talk about it. We try to ignore it. Because talking about issues makes us uncomfortable. But

Acknowledgement is definitely the first step. So share your story. Who knows you might inspire someone else to share theirs. 😊

I feel like I’ve written all this in the influence of my Period harmones πŸ˜‚.

But again say it with me. “Periods are normal”…. !!!

I’m a feminist and if that freaks you out then it’s your problem not mine. So Don’t waste your breath projecting your insecurities on me honey. Because i give fucks exactly the amount of shits i give about your opinion.

And that is “Zero” in case you’re wondering.

Soo.. Until next time 🌸

After we Collided

After We Collided book by Anna Todd

Recently Awc movie is released in many countries. But there is still no date for it’s release in India. Which I’m kind of pretty sure won’t be releasing in India anytime soon. Not in the theaters thats for sure. Because of all the Adult scenes in this movie.

But enough said about Movie, this blog is all about books (Pun intended).

I just wanted to talk about how amazing this book is. I’m so grateful for Anna todd’s imagination. Really.

She gave us Hardin and Tessa. Even though their relationship is mind numbingly toxic, you just can’t get enough of them. It’s a vicious cycle.

And i literally finished this book in Just two days. Because i just couldn’t get enough of them.

When i was reading about them, I just wanted to scream and pull my hairs and do something..

Anything..

Literally…

I wanted to throw this book out of my sight because their relationship made me soo soo angry.

But the trait about Toxic relationship is, you just really can’t get enough.

Hahaha. I know right… That’s exactly what i was feeling.

But really.

I really really loved this book, Hessa. Their stories.

And just like Hardin says “Even the damned need their stories told.”

I really felt like yeah. This is not one of those mushy love stories. Which is all about unicorn and rainbows. This stuff is real stuff.

People are toxic, it’s how you overcome that toxicity and how you make yourself a better person for yourself and for others around you (loved ones) is what matters the most.

In the end it’s all about forgiveness. How much you can show compassion and how you earn your redemption.

So yeah i felt connected with them. I’m sure each one of us at some point of our lives have been in a toxic relationship. Hardin and tessa were lucky enough and felt strongly enough for each other to actually work on themselves instead of just playing the blame game.

I pretty sure i will never get over the “After series” ever. And last but not the least, i just wanna say.

“Whatever their souls are made of, his and hers are really the same.”

This quote is not exactly like this i know. But it’s true. And It just stuck with me. And no I’m not romanticizing Catherine or Heathcliff’s relationship. Maybe we can discuss about that in my next blog.

I think I’m gonna be more active in my blogging from now on. So you can expect a blog every week about a book.

Because again. Its all about books. πŸ˜›

My Dark Vanessa

Hey guys..!! I hope everyone is having a great day and if not hang in there my friend everything will be fine.

If you’re a bookworm like me and reading this for updates you’re on right place… Soo let’s get into that..

Soo I heard soo much about this on my Bookstagram that i decided to read it…

So here goes the book review :-

β™₯️ My Dark Vanessa β™₯️
By @kateelizabethrussell

So it took me 2 days to complete this reading. And I’m speechless.. Literally.!!

⏺Caution :- This book is not for everyone.. Because of the sensitive subject..
It goes around telling the story of 15 year and 32 year old Vanessa about her relationship with almost thrice the age of her older teacher from past to future..

I won’t say this is an enjoyable read… Because its not…

But its an important read.. It made me so uncomfortable many times that i had to put the book down but i always picked it up again after some time.

Book shows a 42 year old teacher gaslight and abuse an 15 year old girl and how because of that she suffered throughout her life.

Story is quite controversial.. But in my opinion.. It should be read.
The story of Vanessa should be heard.!! And understood..

And for a Debut novel this is pretty amazingly written.. ο’ž

Thank you for reading me πŸ’ž

So see ya.. Until next time πŸ™Œ
